Tiaki Whenua, Tiaki Oranga

Care for the land, care for wellbeing

Proprietors of Pokapu Incorporation is a Māori incorporation constituted under Te Ture Whenua Maori Act 1993. The Incorporation holds the whenua and the other assets vested in it on trust for its shareholders, in proportion to their interests in the land. Every shareholder is an owner. The land is not an investment the Incorporation trades — it is taonga tuku iho, held for the shareholders, their whānau and their hapū, and for those who come after them.

Our Values

What we stand for

Whānaungatanga

The governing document must be accessible to every shareholder regardless of educational background, so that each shareholder can see clearly their relationship with the Incorporation, with the Committee, and with each other.

Mana

The mana of each shareholder, their whānau, and their fellow shareholders is protected by removing unnecessarily technical language that puts governance out of reach.

Ea

The 2025 changes were made to rebalance the governance relationship between shareholders, the Incorporation and its Committee, and to respond to the hara caused by a previous lack of accountability.

Our Operations

Dairy

The Incorporation's primary income. A permanent dairy team runs the milking operation day to day, led by a Dairy Team Leader and overseen by the Operations Manager.

Developments

dry stock, biofuel and mānuka honey. These are run through contracts and consultants rather than direct employees, and give the farm room to pursue new income without expanding the permanent team.

Forestry

Managed through independent contractors and specialist operators, including agreements with the Crown, coordinated by the Operations Manager.

Latest News
